A poem should always have birds in it.

-Mary Oliver / from House of Light

Eighty-four flocks of birds cloaked n a variety of beautiful indigo calico fabrics span the width of this gorgeous quilt that is over a century old. A catalog of indigo calico fabrics from the turn-of-the-century, over twenty different varieties are used in this quilt. She’s intricate yet simple and classic and may easily become your favorite quilt to grab to throw over your lap for a summer nap. When awake, you may enjoy studying her fabrics, admiring the beautiful small prints. Not only are the birds pieced beautifully, but the negative white triangular spaces are expertly quilted with half feathered wreaths. She’s in great condition for her age with just a couple very light spots in the body of the quilt and the memory of some others along a few edge spots. She was carefully loved and her binding is mostly intact with just a couple little spots where the fabric shows a touch of wear. (See photos.) She has been thoroughly washed by hand and hung to dry and is ready to become her new owner’s treasure!

Measurements: 66” x 78”

PLEASE SELECT SHIPPING FOR QUILT ($20), NOT FOR A SMALL QUILT PIECE ($10). ORDER WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SHIP OTHERWISE.

15% of profits from this sale will go towards House of Ruth — an organization in DC that supports women (and their children) who are victims of domestic violence.

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
