Ruby Crowned Kinglet Sawtooth Star Quilt
Forty-nine beautiful Sawtooth Stars sparkle against a lovely checkered brown background dotted with pink buds. This quilt comes from the collection of Irving and Ellie Williams of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Ellie Williams devoted many hours to the Packwood House Museum in Lewisburg and created exhibits on Pennsylvania quilts and coverlets. One of the things that makes this quilt so dynamic and pleasing is the way that the quilter distributed the colors of the stars in non-linear, unexpected way. And the three yellow stars? The quilt would not be the same without them. One might guess that the quilter had a stash of the beautiful purple fabric with bird print—a bird that resembles the Ruby Crowned Kinglet —and happily found a place for it in this quilt. Though it is easy to be distracted by the beauty of the fabrics, it would be an oversight not to mention the beauty of the quilting, with the cable quilting all around the border and the small stitches throughout, which gives the quilt a lovely texture. This quilt has been washed by hand and is in excellent condition and is ready to delight her new owner.
