Antique Rainbow Star Quilt
The stars are mansions built by Nature's hand,
And, haply, there the spirits of the blest
Dwell, clothed in radiance, their immortal vest
-William Wordsworth
This antique quilt circa 1860s, with her joyful and colorful array of stars set against a delightful plum-brown printed fabric, is a wonderful, rare find. Unexpectedly found in a dusty corner of a shop in New York City, she was in need of a deep wash and a little bit of restoration. Thoroughly washed by hand and repaired in a couple spots, she is now ready to live on for another century. She is a wonderful acquisition for an antique fabric lover. Scroll through photos to see some of her lovely prints. Her back is made of a gorgeous white fabric with a tiny black clover print. A couple sweet repairs were done on a couple stars and some light staining remains around some of the stars (probably some light bleeding from those particular fabrics, which also happen to be some of the prettiest!) and a few places on the back. She is generously sized and makes a beautiful bed cover. A rare find to love and enjoy!
Measurements: 88” x 89.5”
$20 flat rate shipping includes insurance coverage for the full purchase amount.
All quilts come with a muslin tag noting any known history, and an archival Micron pen for you to add yours.
15% of profits from this sale will go towards Partnership Against Domestic Violence (PADV) — an organization in Atlanta, Georgia that supports women and children survivors of domestic violence through various initiatives. To learn more about their work, visit their website at https://padv.org/
Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.
Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
