Bear Paw Pinwheel Quilt

sold

Made with the most beautiful selections of fabrics from the late 19th century, the browns, indigos, and pinks in this Bear Paw quilt exude a magical warmth. Zoom in to see the variety of brown madder fabrics in each of the blocks. The smaller Pinwheel blocks that alternate with the Bear Paws add beautiful movement and interest. The back is as charming as the front, made with a checkered forest green homespun fabric with a number of small rectangular patch repairs, which almost seem decorative in their beauty. It’s understandable why this quilt once was housed in the collection of the Packwood house Museum in Pennsylvania. Her size is what might be called a youth size — bigger than a crib, but smaller than a twin, which makes for an ideal size for a wall or a luxurious piece for your lap or the back of a sofa. In great condition for her almost two centuries of age, with just a three or four spots on brown fabrics that show a little wear and a few tiny spot of wear on back, this quilt has been washed and is ready to be a gem in your collection.

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
