Birds in the Air Quilt
Oh do you have time
to linger
for just a little while
out of your busy
and very important day
for the goldfinches
that have gathered
in a field of thistles
for a musical battle,
to see who can sing
the highest note,
or the lowest
Mary Oliver / from Invitation
Honoring the more modern work of the maker who has referenced her predecessors and created a lovely piece with a mix of reproduction and antique fabrics in a beloved pattern — Bird in the Air. Set against a background like the night sky, flocks of birds are pieced in beautiful blues, reds, and blacks. The back is a soft white cotton and she's comfortable and lightweight. An advantage to her more modern construction is that she’s sturdier and likely to be able to handle a gentle machine wash cycle for those for whom a tub hand wash is not likely to happen. Graphic and vibrant, clean and cozy, she’ll be a lovely accent to any room. In excellent condition; one very faint little mark on front and back.
Measurements: 65” x 71”
PLEASE SELECT SHIPPING FOR QUILT ($20), NOT FOR A SMALL QUILT PIECE ($8). ORDER WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SHIP OTHERWISE.
All quilts come with a muslin tag noting any known history, and an archival Micron pen for you to add yours.
15% of profits from this sale will go towards the Tahiri Justice Center, a national non-profit organization that supports immigrant survivors of gender-based violence. See Tahiri.org for more on their work.
Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.
Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
