Birds-in-the-Air Quilt with Quilted Geese

$0.00
sold

Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,

are heading home again.

Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,

the world offers itself to your imagination,

calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting —

over and over announcing your place

in the family of things.

– Mary Oliver / from Wild Geese

A once-in-a-lifetime find, this incredible quilt is a bird lover’s dream. This masterpiece must have been an expert quilter’s pride and joy. Beautifully pieced using a coordinating selection of burgundy and white calicos, the bird shaped quilting in the negative spaces is stunning. She underwent her first wash just recently, which brought the quilted birds to life. The lovely puckering between the many stitches lends the birds a wonderful texture. This quilt is in impeccable condition and will be a true treasure to add to your collection. One tiny light stain on front is the only flaw to note. A mysterious small blue print on back, likely an existing part of the muslin fabric used for the backing. She has a lightly stitched to pole sleeve if you have a wall to spare. Lucky is her new owner!

Measurements: 70” x 80”

$20 flat rate shipping includes insurance coverage for the full purchase amount.

All quilts come with a muslin tag noting any known history, and an archival Micron pen for you to add yours.

15% of profits from this sale will go towards Partnership Against Domestic Violence (PADV) — an organization in Atlanta, Georgia that supports women and children survivors of domestic violence through various initiatives. To learn more about their work, visit their website at https://padv.org/

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
