Oversized Variable Star Quilt
There is something unexpected and pleasing about a favorite quilt block rendered on an oversized scale. And this Variable Star quilt is no exception. She is pieced in a truly stunning combination of fabrics – a deep indigo with an oak leaf motif, a glowing butternut yellow, and an earthy brown, finished with a wide coppery madder border. (Take a look at the close-up of the border — a masterpiece in and of itself!) Her back is made of an elegant lighter grey-brown striped print. With a very thin layer of batting, this piece will be a stunning dress to your bed, whether used alone in the summer or layered in the winter. Or fold her over a quilt rack or banister and enjoy her color accents. She has been washed by hand and is in excellent condition with the exception of some light residual staining on her cream fabrics (see photos) – an easy thing to forgive (or even love) as part of her age and beauty.
