Early Floral Strippy Quilt

sold

A very unusual and special quilt, likely from the mid-1800s, pieced in strips and beautifully quilted, the fabrics and colors alone on this quilt draw you in. The front is pieced with two alternating fabrics – one with a palmette-like motif flanked by a lovely chestnut brown which shows the beauty of the natural dye, and the other, with little bars of flowers against a cobalt blue. Turn her over and her back is perhaps even more wonderful, made with a fabric with an intricate lavender, brown, and pink design. She is trimmed in a wispy loosely woven lavender fabric that feels like a wool blend, that does show some wear in places. This quilt is thin and has a lovely drape and a soft, textural feel. She has been washed by hand and is in very good condition for her age with a few 4-6” seam separations along her bars (simple mends), one small spot of fabric wear and some trim wear. An incredible textile to add to your collection!
