Flying Geese on a Foggy Day Quilt

$0.00
sold

Meanwhile the wild geese,

high in the clean blue air,

are heading home again.

Mary Oliver / from Wild Geese

It’s rare to find such a beautiful quilter’s rendition of a flock of geese flying in the blue sky. With the most beautiful calico and shirting fabrics from the late 1800s, an expert quilter pieced 120 geese against an elegant background of blues, grey, and whites. The fabric has a lovely weight, many of them having the sheen of fine cotton. The colors exude the mood of a foggy day, while the geese stand out due to their large triangular shapes and precise craftsmanship. Each goose has a beautiful little peach tie at its top point. The ties and fabrics all have beautiful fading from the passage of time. This quilt has no batting, and would be lovely hung on the wall as a backdrop or make a luxurious accent on a bed. In excellent condition with no noticeable issues.

Measurements: 66” x 71”

PLEASE SELECT SHIPPING FOR QUILT ($20), NOT FOR A SMALL QUILT PIECE ($8). ORDER WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SHIP OTHERWISE.

All quilts come with a muslin tag noting any known history, and an archival Micron pen for you to add yours.

15% of profits from this sale will go towards the Tahiri Justice Center, a national non-profit organization that supports immigrant survivors of gender-based violence. See Tahiri.org for more on their work.

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
