Green Leaves Lover's Links Quilt
The poetry of earth is never dead:
When all the birds are faint with the hot sun,
And hide in cooling trees, a voice will run
From hedge to hedge about the new-mown mead;
That is the Grasshopper's—he takes the lead
In summer luxury,—he has never done
With his delights; for when tired out with fun
He rests at ease beneath some pleasant weed.
-John Keats / from On the Grasshopper and the Cricket
Understandably chosen to be documented by the Illinois Quilt Research Project, this exquisite quilt from the mid to late 1800s, is a simple yet stunning masterpiece. The verdant green links are meticulously appliquéd onto the white ground, in some places using several pieces of green fabric pieced together to create the correct shape. The clamshell quilting echoes the beautiful curves of the links and the lighter green frame gives the quilt an additional dimensionality. Placed anywhere in the home, she will bring the soothing green of nature into your home. A truly special piece especially for a lover of the outdoors. She’s in excellent condition for her age, with only a couple tiny light marks on the front and a few more marks and tiny surface hole on the back as shown. She has been thoroughly washed by hand and hung to dry and is ready to become an heirloom in her new family.
Measurements: 69” x 82”
PLEASE SELECT SHIPPING FOR QUILT ($20), NOT FOR A SMALL QUILT PIECE ($10). ORDER WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SHIP OTHERWISE.
All quilts come with a muslin tag noting any known history, and an archival Micron pen for you to add yours.
15% of profits from this sale will go towards House of Ruth — an organization in DC that supports women (and their children) who are victims of domestic violence.
Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.
Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
