A quilt that stops you in your tracks. It is rare to come across such a striking piece of workmanship in a classic indigo and white in this larger size and in wonderful condition. This Checkerboard quilt was once a part of the collection at the Packwood House Museum in Pennsylvania, part of the Shoemaker collection. It is made of two different types of deep indigo fabric, one dotted with sunflowers and the other with stars. There are a variety of beautiful quilting patterns in the white spaces which are worth looking through closely. Everything is framed by a lovely sawtooth border and a trim of indigo with a chrome orange print. A soft cotton pole sleeve was lightly stitched on one edge if you were to have a wall to display her! A true heirloom piece, this is quilt to enjoy and pass down to the next generation. She has been washed by hand and hung to dry and is in excellent condition, with just the slightest touch of discoloration here and there, along the edges, where she was handled the most, but nothing very noticeable. She is ready to be treasured by her new owner.

15% of profits from this sale will go towards Hilliard House in Richmond, VA — an organization local to Flying Geese that provides short-term emergency shelter for children and adults who are on their way to a permanent home. Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
