Log Cabin in the Woods Quilt

$0.00
sold

It is a dark fall day.
The earth is slightly damp with rain.
I hear a jay.
The cry is blue.
I have found you in the story again.
Is there another word for ‘‘divine’’?
I need a song that will keep sky open in my mind.
If I think behind me, I might break.
If I think forward, I lose now.
Forever will be a day like this
Strung perfectly on the necklace of days.
Slightly overcast
Yellow leaves
Your jacket hanging in the hallway
Next to mine.

-Joy Harjo / Fall Song

It’s not every day that you come across a Log Cabin quilt, and in such a playful and beautiful array of old fabrics. Against a slightly faded red background with tiny floral print sit 30 cabins, intricately and delightfully pieced. Thin strips make up the logs, windows were added with thin sashing, and chimneys made of miniature 9-patch blocks — each house is so much fun to examine! An incredibly large quilt at 80” x 104”, this piece makes a lovely bedspread, but being thin (summer quilt weight with no batting), she can easily be folded to display on a rack, or the back of a chair. Her back is a lovely, warm, checkered fabric in wide strips with the slight coarseness of homespun fabric. She has been washed by hand and is clean and in overall good condition. Just a few little tears as shown, easy mends. One small hole. A previous owner added a couple lovely mends, as shown in the last photo. A wonderful piece to study and enjoy.

Measurements: 80” x 104”

$20 flat rate shipping includes insurance coverage for the full purchase amount.

All quilts come with a muslin tag noting any known history, and an archival Micron pen for you to add yours.

15% of profits from this sale will go towards Tubman’s Hopetober campaign during domestic violence awareness month. Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
