Heirloom Cheddar Duck Paddle Quilt

$0.00
sold

For years, every morning, I drank from Blackwater Pond.

It was flavored with oak leaves and also, no doubt,

the feet of ducks.

-Mary Oliver / from Red Bird

A truly heirloom quality piece, this Duck Paddle Variation quilt is made of the richest of cheddar fabrics, intricately quilted with feathered wreaths and interspersed with gorgeous blocks pieced with a wide array of old fabrics, many madder browns among them. The colors are reminiscent of the feathers of a duck, accentuated against a beautiful orange beak. The piecing and quilting is expertly executed. Trimmed in green, the back of the quilt is an unusual homespun linen fabric. This antique quilt from the mid-1800s has stood the test of time and has a few marks to show for it. Some small scattered stains on the back, a couple beautiful patches, and some of her whites on front that have undergone some slight discoloration. But she is a stunning piece in all of her colorful autumnal glory and will be a prize in anyone’s quilt collection. She has been thoroughly washed by hand and is ready for your home.

Measurements: 67” x 86”

$20 flat rate shipping includes insurance coverage for the full purchase amount.

All quilts come with a muslin tag noting any known history, and an archival Micron pen for you to add yours.

15% of profits from this sale will go towards Tubman’s Hopetober campaign during domestic violence awareness month. Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
