Millwheel Quilt with Monogram
A truly special piece made with the most exquisite fabrics and dated with a cross-stitched monogram patch in one corner with the initials ‘H.E.J’ and the date ‘1905.’ This quilt is rendered in a Millwheel pattern, sometimes also called a Snowball, but with curves that are at a slightly different angle than the typical Snowball quilt. Look closely, and you’ll see that the light calico fabric used along two of the opposing sides are a slightly different shade and print than that used throughout the center. The red fabric is dotted with charming tiny yellow flowers. The white border is constructed from a period sage green print, and the back, a lovely black and cream that has been turned by hand to bind the quilt. Lightweight and drapey, this quilt has been washed by hand and is in excellent condition with just the slightest bit of aging to some of her light fabric that is really not noticeable because of her prints. A true treasure to add to your collection!
