Postage Stamp Double Quilt

Date: c. 1890-1900 (inner quilt older)
Provenance/Notes:
Oh, the beauty of a classic scrappy Postage Stamp quilt! True Postage Stamps with little squares are hard to come by and they are such treasures.
Framed in a lovely soft lavender and brown
Wonderful assortment of period fabrics with lots of visual movement due to the artful distribution of colors with a notable use of black squares throughout
A quilt inside a quilt! An older quilt was used as batting for the one we currently see; tiny peeks of it are visible through a few of the missing squares of the outer layer, see photo
A substantially weighty quilt (without being too thick) with a nice drape
Found in Richmond, VA; maker/origin unknown
In great condition for age with just 4-5 missing outer squares and 8-9 squares in a burgundy fabric that was not colorfast (see last photo)
Washed by hand
Measurements: 76” x 80”

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep.
