Primitive Cheddar and Red Ocean Wave Quilt

$0.00
sold

Red gold of pools,

Sunset furrows six o’clock,

And the farmer done in the fields

And the cows in the barns with bulging udders.

Take the cows and the farmer,

Take the barns and bulging udders.

Leave the red gold of poolsAnd sunset furrows six o’clock.

The farmer’s wife is singing.

The farmer’s boy is whistling.

I wash my hands in red gold of pools.

-Carl Sandburg / Harvest Sunset

This 1880s cheddar and red ocean waves is a classic primitive beauty. Beautifully pieced with black thread, which adds an unusual and beautiful accent, and quilted in white thread, this piece will add a splash of warmth and radiance to your space. Slightly thicker than a thin quilt, she’s cozy and soft, and perfect for this fall weather. She is in great condition and has been thoroughly washed by hand. A couple small repairs have been made to her trim, and a slightly more faded area around one block. A wonderful piece to add to your collection!

Measurements: 66” x 74”

$20 flat rate shipping includes insurance coverage for the full purchase amount.

All quilts come with a muslin tag noting any known history, and an archival Micron pen for you to add yours.

15% of profits from this sale will go towards Tubman’s Hopetober campaign during domestic violence awareness month. Tubman provides safe shelter, legal services, mental and chemical health counseling, youth programming, and community education throughout the Twin Cities. See tubman.org for more information on their important work.

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
