Rare Double Sided Sampler and Four-Patch Crib Quilt

$1,150.00
sold

A small quilt of incredible artistry and a bit of mystery, this Four-Patch crib quilt draws you in with the beauty of her old fabrics pieced in little squares and then framed by a wide overdyed green border. But turn her over and you see a different side of the quilter’s talent. Likely using what she had on hand, she created an incredibly playful and artful lanscape of colors and shapes. Included in the piecing are three recognizable blocks — four Sawtooth blocks, two Square in a Square, and one Counterpane. The rest of the piece is filled in with a variety of rectangles, from tiny to large, skinny to wide. A piece to display on one side or other, depending on the season or your mood, with all the colors of nature contained within. A quilt that celebrates so much of the hidden artistry of the women who went before us. She is in great condition for her age with some expected wear on her woolly purple and brown checkered woven fabric, a couple tiny spots of discoloration, and a light water stain in one corner.

Measurements: 44.5” x 44.5”

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
