Red Tulip Appliqué Quilt
Pattern: Tulip Appliqué
Date: c. 1860-1880
Provenance/Notes:
What a stunning combination of colors in this quilt with her bright red tulips in full bloom against the slightly faded blue-green stems and leaves, with small rich yellow center accents
Expert appliqué work throughout, with beautiful stitching around each tulip petal
An incredibly soft quilt, with lovely diamond quilting throughout
From the prolific quilt collection of a prominent Northern Virginia estate
This quilt is in very good condition for her age, and also shows some beautiful evidence of love and history — a smattering of invisible surface stitch repairs, a few patch repairs (one front edge, three on back), a slight touch of residual discoloration on edges and one very light residual stain near a flower (see last photo). Also a small line of stains on back. None of this stands out and takes away from the beauty of this quilt!
A lightly stitched pole sleeve along one edge for hanging, if desired. Also easily removed.
Measurements: 73” x 84”
15% of profits from every quilt sale in this collection will go to Tubman, Minnesota’s largest provider of domestic violence shelter services. For more, see tubman.org

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.
Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
