Pattern: Goose in the Pond

Date: c. 1900-1910

Provenance/Notes

  • A truly exquisite iteration of this pattern using a wonderful variety of scrappy fabrics. Take a look at some of the close-ups to see the fun choices, from indigos and reds, stripes and checks, dots and squiggles.

  • Circular quilting throughout the sashing provides a beautiful contrast to all the triangles and squares in the quilt

  • Notice the tiny black and white grid background fabric and the splash of orange in the nine patches between each of the blocks

  • Wonderfully soft and cozy quilt

  • Hails from the Shenandoah valley area; maker/origin unknown

  • Washed by hand and in excellent condition; just a few very negligible residual stains and one small place where a few sttiches have come undone on trim

Measurements: 80” x 81.5”

15% of profits from every quilt sale in this next collection will go towards supporting the work of Safelight — an organization we are now supporting for the third year in a row. Safelight is a nonprofit agency in North Carolina that provides support for survivors of interpersonal violence, sexual assault and child abuse. For more, see www.safelightfamily.org

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
