Sea and Mountain Drunkard's Path Quilt
All I could see from where I stood
Was three long mountains and a wood;
I turned and looked another way,
And saw three islands in a bay.
So with my eyes I traced the line
Of the horizon, thin and fine,
Edna St. Vincent Millay / from Renascence
This stunning Drunkard’s Path quilt with zigzag border comes with an unusual little piece of history carefully recorded by a later generation. The labels reads:
Pieced and hand quilted by Mary Ellen Meyers Diel
Born April 21, 1866 in Gila, Jasper County IL
Died November 24, 1969
and her sister
Lola Florence Myers Walden
Born July 6, 1881 in Gila, Jasper County IL
Died August 25, 1972 in Noble, Richland County IL
Circa 1910
Expertly pieced and beautifully quilted, this quilt must have been a lovely celebration of their sisterhood and celebration of their skilled handiwork. The deep blue dotted fabric sits vividly against the cream background and has the most beautiful movement. Bordered on each side with indigo peaks, the quilt reads like a landscape of mountains and sea. She’s in beautiful original condition with no notable flaws (one negligible mark on back) and is ready to be part of a new family’s history.
Measurements: 66” x 82”
PLEASE SELECT SHIPPING FOR QUILT ($20), NOT FOR A SMALL QUILT PIECE ($10). ORDER WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SHIP OTHERWISE.
All quilts come with a muslin tag noting any known history, and an archival Micron pen for you to add yours.
15% of profits from this sale will go towards House of Ruth — an organization in DC that supports women (and their children) who are victims of domestic violence.
Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.
Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
