Antique Sunburst Quilt

The luminous grasses, and the merry sun

In the grave sky; the sparkle far and wide,

Laughter of unseen children, cheerful chirp

Of crickets, and low lisp of rippling tide,

Light summer clouds fantastical as sleep

Changing unnoted while I gazed thereon.

All these fair sounds and sights I made my own.

-Emma Lazarus / Long Island Sound

An incredible burst of summer color – the deep blue of the ocean, the bright cheddar yellow of the midday sun, the red of cherries, and the white of the puffy clouds. This century-old lovely Sunburst quilt has both a modern graphic quality as well as a primitive charm. Her two long side borders were once a fugitive green that has washed away over time to a light sage. Her shorter two ends are slightly curved following the shape of the Sunburst pattern. She’s both a wonderful accent quilt as well as a soft and snuggly one to curl up with. A bright pop in the summer and a rich rainbow of colors to wrap yourself with as the weather gets colder, she’s great year round. She has been washed by hand and hung to dry and is in great shape. A couple tiny stains on front, and a light spray of stains on one part of the back. (See photos.) One section of the quilt was backed in a slightly different shade of fabric, and a bit of the batting has shifted in that area. She’s a cozy and gorgeous piece of color to bring into your home!

Measurements: 63” x 86”

PLEASE SELECT SHIPPING FOR QUILT ($20), NOT FOR A SMALL QUILT PIECE ($10). ORDER WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SHIP OTHERWISE.

All quilts come with a muslin tag noting any known history, and an archival Micron pen for you to add yours.

15% of profits from this sale will go towards House of Ruth — an organization in DC that supports women (and their children) who are victims of domestic violence.

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
