Had I not seen the Sun
I could have borne the shade
But Light a newer Wilderness
My Wilderness has made—

Emily Dickinson / Had I Not Seen the Sun

This Sunshine and Shadows Postage Stamp Quilt has all the scrappy appeal of a classic postage stamp with little squares (each measuring 1 1/4”) but with a bright red and yellow graphic that gives the quilt a pop of color. The red and cheddar squares provide a great contrast to the lovely array of soft calicos and indigos, whites, and grays. One fabric in particular that was likely a deeper blue has faded to a gorgeous gray-green shade. The border is a washed light pink that has faded beautifully. She’s a perfect size to throw over your lap or cozy up with a nap. She has been washed and is in excellent condition with the exception of some very light bleeding of sunshine from her yellow squares. See photos. This quilt is sure to become a favorite!

15% of profits from this sale will go towards Hilliard House in Richmond, VA. Hilliard House is the largest emergency shelter for families with children in Greater Richmond. Families receive not only a safe and welcoming place to sleep, but also meals, housing-focused case management, access to computers and internet, and most importantly, a path to permanent housing. Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
