Pattern: Flock of Geese

Date: c. 1900

Provenance/Notes

  • An heirloom scrappy quilt if there ever was one, this incredible quilt pieced with over 950 Flying Geese triangles, is a collector’s treasure.

  • A huge variety of indigo calicos as well as shirting fabrics and white prints. Look at some of the closeups to enjoy the different prints. The top and bottom borders are made of rows of Flying Geese, and a pretty indigo edge lines the longer sides.

  • Notice the fun little random pops of color — two purple triangles, one with pink stripes, and another in a green check.

  • Comes from the collection of a long time quilt historian, author, and collector.

  • A soft muslin pole sleeve is stitched along one edge and is marked “Flock of Geese” (possibly once hung in an exhibition)

  • Maker/origin unknown

  • Washed by hand and in excellent condition; just a couple tiny negligible marks and some fold staining on the back.

Measurements: 69’ x 75”

$20 flat rate shipping includes insurance coverage for the full purchase amount. Price for smaller items have been adjusted (lowered) to account for the lower shipping cost.

15% of profits from every quilt sale in this next collection will go towards supporting the work of Safelight — an organization we are now supporting for the third year in a row. Safelight is a nonprofit agency in North Carolina that provides support for survivors of interpersonal violence, sexual assault and child abuse. For more, see www.safelightfamily.org

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
