Touching Stars Quilt, c. 1860
A masterpiece of incredible workmanship made of the loveliest fabrics, this Touching Stars quilt from circa 1860 is one of the largest pieces we have come across here at Flying Geese. At 102” x 102” she can fully drape a king-sized bed, and her length is long enough to wrap around your pillows if desired. Her colors are that of a summer landscape – straw yellow, grass green, sky blue, and rose pink. Look closely at the pink and yellow fabrics to see that they are checkered, and the blue triangles that line border are made of a beautiful old resist dyed fabric. The quilting in the white spaces is incredibly dense and beautifully executed. Take a moment to see the detailed photos. This quilt has been washed by hand and is in very good condition for her 150 years or so of age. She has a couple tiny marks, slight toning along a couple of her edges where she was probably handled the most, and a few very small spots of fabric wear. A smattering of small stains on back. Nothing to distract from her absolute beauty. A piece to treasure for a long, long time.
Measurements: 102” x 102”

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.
Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
