Twirling Pinwheels in Snow Quilt
and I just stood there, listening and holding out
my hands to the soft glitter
falling through the air. I love this world,
but not for its answers.
And I wish good luck to the owl,
whatever its name –and I wish great welcome to the snow,
whatever its severe and comfortless
and beautiful meaning.
Mary Oliver / from Snowy Night
There’s somethings so lovely about the movement in a pinwheel block quilt, and the scrappy nature of this one makes her all the more festive and fun. Set against a background of blue snowy dots, a wonderful variety of fabrics make up the triangles in each pinwheel block. Many of them are indigos, a few of them fun feedsack fabrics from the 1930s and 40s. The quilting is dense enough to lend the quilt a lovely, nubbly texture, almost as if you can feel the tiny blue dots with your hands. This quilt has been washed by hand and is clean and ready for her new lover’s home. In excellent condition, with just a couple tiny stains on front and a few small ones on back, as shown in the last photo. A quilt to enjoy every day this season and year-round!

15% of profits from this sale will go towards Hilliard House in Richmond, VA. Hilliard House is the largest emergency shelter for families with children in Greater Richmond. Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.
Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
