Provenance/Notes:
A gorgeous and unusual black quilt from the prominent collection of a quilt historian, collector, and author
A wonderful example of an artfully made primitive quilt. Note the small scrappy fillers.
Background is a black mourning fabric, back is a fabulous, vibrant red with leaves, which was turned to make the border. Notice the charming variance in width of the border in different places.
Stunning displayed on either side
Washed by hand and in overall great condition; a bit of dye migration from the dark fabrics (mostly the blues) and slight shifting of batting only in the border.
Hails from Kentucky; maker/origin unknown
Measurements: 66” x 75”
